How to Expand New Food Resources? The Technological Synergy of Biomanufacturing and Precision Detection
As the world’s largest food consumption market, China faces severe challenges in protein and oil supply. Data show that the annual domestic shortfall of animal protein exceeds 10 million tons, while dependence on imported edible oil reaches 70%. Under traditional agricultural models, animal protein production relies on grain conversion, consuming vast resources (for example, producing 1 kg of beef requires 8 kg of feed) and causing significant environmental pollution. Plant protein, on the other hand, is constrained by limited land resources and low processing efficiency. Against this backdrop, adopting a “holistic food perspective” and conducting in-depth research on exploring and creating new food resources has become a strategic choice to ensure national food security.
