[Reflections on Ten Years] “Rewind to June 28th, 10 years ago. On that rainy day, our old colleague Liu and over a dozen team members loaded four large trucks full of goods and drove to the underground parking lot of Suzhou Software Park. The parking lot was full of dust, a chaotic scene. There was an inexplicable feeling of sadness,” said Mr. Yang Peiqiang, founder and chairman of Niumag Analysis, at the annual meeting.
“On the challenging and uncertain path we’ve walked, we had to feel our way through, navigating the obstacles one step at a time.” Ten years have passed in the blink of an eye, but for Niumag, these ten years have been a period of honing and refining. Looking back serves as a reminder to stay true to our original intentions. From 2020, we begin a new decade, and the question is how Niumag will make greater strides in the next ten years. The answer lies in ‘taking responsibility, seeking truth, producing lean products, and providing sincere service.’
On January 8th, 2020, Suzhou Niumag Analysis Instruments Co., Ltd. (hereafter referred to as “Niumag”) held its grand 2019-2020 annual meeting at the Ramada Hotel in Suzhou. The theme of the annual meeting was “Taking responsibility, seeking truth, producing lean products, and providing sincere service.” More than 160 staff members from Suzhou Niumag, Shanghai Niumag, Suzhou Tainu Testing, and Shanghai Tainu Kejiao, as well as guests like Professor Liu Tangyan from Tongji University, attended. The meeting consisted of two parts: recognition and awards, and the cultural evening party. The attendees reflected on the past, analyzed the present, and planned for the future.

▲ Mr. Yang Peiqiang, Founder and Chairman of Niumag Analysis, delivering his speech
From the 600-square-meter underground parking lot at Suzhou High-tech Zone in 2009 to the 7,000-square-meter Xuguan Industrial Park today, Niumag has undergone tremendous changes in the past 10 years. This growth deeply moved Mr. Yang Peiqiang, founder and chairman of Niumag Analysis, as he mentioned in his speech: “At that time, we could never have imagined that Niumag would grow into a company as large as it is today, with a team of over 160 people. There were no guides showing us the way forward. In a world filled with hardship, confusion, and uncertainty, we had to feel our way and face many unexpected challenges. Yet, we overcame them and reached where we are today.”

Building scientific instrument technology is never a quick process. It requires decades, or even centuries, of effort and inheritance across generations.
In 1958, Professor Wu Xuewen from East China Normal University first demonstrated the nuclear magnetic resonance phenomenon with equipment he built himself.
In 1990, the nuclear magnetic resonance development team at East China Normal University built the first experimental NMR device. At that time, Mr. Yang, then a master’s student, was a team member, which laid the foundation for his future entrepreneurial career.
In 1999, Niumag’s original prototype won the First Prize for National Physics Teaching Equipment.
In 2003, Niumag Analysis was officially established in Shanghai, marking the beginning of the commercialization of domestic low-field NMR technology.
In 2009, Niumag Analysis’s R&D factory was established in Suzhou, entering a phase of rapid development.
Niumag’s 70 years of technological accumulation and three generations of persistent effort represent a difficult exploration period for China’s analytical instrument industry. It is also a microcosm of the country’s journey of socialist development over the past 70 years.

Vice Dean Li Xianghong of Niumag Analysis delivering the 2019 company summary
If Mr. Yang’s speech was more of a reflection, then Vice President Li Xianghong’s speech focused on analyzing the present and planning for the future. Ms. Li delivered the company’s 2019 summary to all Niumag employees.
Despite a downturn in the economy, the growth rate of the low-field NMR market slowed in 2019. However, through collective effort and collaboration, Niumag still achieved solid results. In June, Niumag Analysis was awarded the “Charming Science and Technology Team” title in Suzhou. In October, another of Niumag’s products received the “BCEIA Gold Award”.
Ms. Li led the team in acknowledging these achievements, confronting challenges head-on, analyzing difficulties, integrating resources, and setting the work guidelines for 2020: “Taking responsibility, seeking truth, producing lean products, and providing sincere service.” Goals and priorities for 2020 were also established.

Award ceremony scene
At approximately 3:00 PM, the annual awards ceremony was held, where teams and individuals who had made significant contributions throughout the year were recognized and rewarded. Five special awards were presented, including “Research Star,” “Diligence Star,” “Production Star,” and “Niumag New Star.” These awards recognized outstanding employees in various fields. Additionally, the “Niumag Star” award was given to the best of the best from over 160 employees, and the “Top Sales” award went to the top-performing sales personnel.
The most significant awards were the “General Manager’s Special Contribution Award” for those who made outstanding contributions to key projects, and the “Excellent Team” award, which encouraged collaboration and teamwork.

The development of Niumag has been greatly influenced by the long-term dedication and support of its employees. Special service awards were presented to employees celebrating three, five, eight, and ten years of service. Employees who had been with the company for ten years were recognized, just as Mr. Yang had mentioned in his speech: “The dozen or so employees who joined us in the Suzhou parking lot all those years ago are still with the company today.” The watches awarded as prizes symbolized time, reminding everyone of the past decade and the hopes for the new decade ahead.

Mr. Yang’s toast and New Year wishes to all
The ceremony concluded with a toast from Mr. Yang, as he led the attendees in raising their glasses and offering their best New Year wishes.
After the speeches, reports, and awards, it was time to unwind. The “Niumag Spring Gala” kicked off with a chorus of “My Motherland and I.”

Over 90% of Niumag’s 160-plus employees have a background in science or engineering. While their work can seem serious and intense, when it comes to showcasing talent, they all have their own hidden talents. Singing, playing instruments, stand-up comedy, and dancing—everyone has something unique to offer.
