On November 19, 2022, Professor Ruan Rongsheng visited Suzhou Newmai Analysis Instrument Co., Ltd. He toured the newly constructed factory, equipment research, and production base, providing valuable guidance and development suggestions for Newmai’s work.

Professor Ruan Rongsheng

Who is he?

Professor Ruan Rongsheng, male, PhD, is a professor at the University of Minnesota, USA, and the Director of the Biological Refining Center. He is also a doctoral supervisor, a fellow of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), a fellow of the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and a Chang Jiang Scholar Distinguished Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education.
Professor Ruan’s research areas include renewable biomass energy and the value-added processing of agricultural and forestry biomass in food engineering, as well as research in nuclear magnetic resonance and its imaging technology, food polymer theory, nuclear magnetic resonance food polymer state diagram technology, ultra-high pressure technology, plasma sterilization technology, and neural network technology applied to food processing, preservation, and quality management.
He has led over 200 research projects funded by the Department of Energy, the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Science Foundation, and the industry, with a total research fund of over $50 million. He has published over 500 papers in international authoritative journals, including more than 400 indexed by SCI and EI. He has authored or co-authored 18 books, holds more than 50 domestic and international patents, and has received over 60 international awards.

Chairman Yang Peiqiang of Suzhou Newmai Analysis Instrument Co., Ltd. took a stroll with Professor Ruan through the Time Corridor of Newmai, reflecting on the growth journey of Newmai from “0” to “1”.

Upon seeing the photos from the first National Low-Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Technology and Applications Seminar in the Time Corridor, Mr. Yang Peiqiang was filled with mixed emotions and expressed his deep gratitude to Professor Ruan for the guidance and assistance he provided during the early days of Newmai’s establishment.

Chairman Yang introduced to Professor Ruan Newmai’s products, which have broken through foreign technological barriers and monopolies, and are now sold in Asia, Europe, North America, and other regions. These include products like the “Awake” small animal body composition analyzer, solid fat content analyzer, and seed oil and moisture content analyzer. Notably, Turkey has recently ordered dozens of seed oil and moisture content analyzers. Professor Ruan expressed that Newmai, as a leading domestic brand in low-field magnetic resonance scientific instruments, has set an excellent example in the industry. The sale of dozens of seed analyzers to Turkey shows that the Newmai brand has established itself internationally and is recognized by international clients. He hopes Newmai will continue to innovate while maintaining quality, offering diversified products tailored to market needs, and allowing domestic instruments to shine on the international stage.

At the same time, Professor Ruan also mentioned his research on applications in food processing and preservation, food quality management, and more. This includes the development of high-tech solutions to extend food shelf life, ensure food quality, and guarantee food safety; the use of advanced non-thermal plasma and high-voltage electric field technologies in bioproducts and food processing. While nuclear magnetic resonance and imaging technology have found extensive applications in the medical field, their applications in other sectors remain underdeveloped. Based on his extensive research experience in food, agriculture, and biology, Professor Ruan authored the book “Applications of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Technology in Food and Biological Systems” to help more people understand nuclear magnetic resonance technology in the fields of food science, agricultural science, and biological science.

After visiting the exhibition hall, Professor Ruan arrived at Newmai’s research and development base and production workshop, where he further learned about Newmai’s products. After hearing about the application of Newmai’s products in research areas such as oil and gas field development simulation experiments, shale oil and gas development evaluation, and CO2 enhanced oil recovery and carbon sequestration, Professor Ruan highly recognized Newmai’s achievements in product development and innovation. In particular, the additional high-temperature and high-pressure system perfectly meets current industry needs both domestically and internationally, though no similar instruments are available for research abroad. Professor Ruan hopes Newmai will strengthen its international market presence, not only becoming well-known domestically but also gaining recognition globally. He also hopes Newmai will continue its innovative spirit and offer high-temperature and high-pressure magnetic resonance platform solutions in fields like food, agriculture, and chemicals.

Work Guidance

Regarding how to open up the international market, Professor Ruan also provided some suggestions:
1. Participate in large industry conferences in the U.S. and give presentations. Many U.S. companies attend these conferences looking for solutions to their pain points;
2. After hearing the presentation, companies will proactively contact the presenter;
3. The presenter provides consulting services and assists in finding solutions;
4. Once the solution is mature, companies will purchase the equipment for testing.

Educating with Integrity, Setting an Example through Rigorous Scholarship

Diligent Research, Outstanding Achievements for the Benefit of People

We would like to express our gratitude to Professor Ruan for his support and for providing valuable guidance to the Newmai team. We will continue to forge ahead, innovate, learn from Professor Ruan, and contribute to the analysis instrument industry in China with greater achievements.
