On April 9, 2022, the PhD proposal defense and PhD dissertation defense for two postdoctoral researchers at Newmai Analysis were grandly held at the Newmai Analysis Building. Due to the pandemic, both the proposal and the dissertation defense were conducted in a hybrid format, combining both on-site and remote participation.

Three postdoctoral defense sessions at Newmai Analysis Building completed successfully
On the morning of the event, one postdoctoral researcher, jointly recruited by Newmai Analysis and Tongji University from the energy and geosciences field, presented a report on the topic of “Porous Medium Theory and NMR Experimental Research.” Experts from Shanghai University, Tongji University, and Newmai Analysis reviewed the topic, asking questions about the technical characteristics such as the pore structure and fluid distribution of porous media, to which the presenter responded in detail. The expert panel concluded that the applicant demonstrated strong research and innovation abilities, with deep long-term accumulation and profound thought on the subject. The research approach was clear, reasonable, and feasible. The topic was deemed to have good application prospects and high academic and practical value. Finally, the expert panel unanimously approved the proposal for this project.
The second postdoctoral researcher from the biomedical field presented a proposal on the topic of “Preclinical Experimental Research of Magnetic Resonance Imaging on Common Brain Issues.” After the “presentation-question-answer” process, the expert panel concluded that the applicant had a strong research foundation, clear objectives, and practical and feasible methods. The panel unanimously approved the proposal! Newmai Analysis Postdoctoral Workstation and Suzhou University School of Medicine Postdoctoral Fellowship Station will provide strong support for this postdoctoral research to ensure its smooth progress.
In the afternoon, postdoctoral researcher Xu Kaifin, jointly trained by Newmai Analysis Postdoctoral Workstation and East China Normal University Postdoctoral Fellowship Station, conducted his dissertation defense on the project “Research on Practical Measurement and Correction Methods for Low-field NMR Gradient Eddy Currents.” The expert panel highly recognized Dr. Xu’s two years of postdoctoral research. Finally, Dr. Xu successfully passed his postdoctoral evaluation, concluding his project with excellent results. Congratulations to Dr. Xu!

Xu Kaifin, a graduate of East China Normal University in Radio Physics, studied under Professor Yao Yefeng from the College of Physics and Electronic Science. During his time at the postdoctoral workstation, he determined the research direction of low-field NMR gradient eddy current correction based on the actual work content and product demands, combining his academic background and research experience. Through extensive research, theoretical and methodological innovation, he developed a new NMR gradient eddy current measurement and correction method (ECIM). This method consists of a series of novel sampling pulse sequences, mathematical models, and data analysis algorithms, providing efficient, convenient, accurate, and stable advantages. It is not only applicable to low-field NMR but also to high-field NMR, demonstrating good versatility. This method significantly reduces time and material costs while ensuring the correction effect, with great application results and potential for commercialization. It has already been patented in China and internationally and is in production. His project “Development and Application of NMR Imaging Equipment Based on Quantitative Imaging Technology” was awarded the 2021 Jiangsu Province Postdoctoral Scientific Research Fund (Class B) Special Grant.

The expert panel for the postdoctoral defense included many external experts and professors who participated in the evaluation
All three postdoctoral researchers gave excellent performances, answering the questions raised by the attending experts with detailed and targeted responses. They were unanimously recognized by the expert panel, and the proposal defense concluded successfully!

The expert panel for this proposal and dissertation defense session included many esteemed external experts and professors. Among them were Professor Di Qinfeng from the Institute of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, Shanghai University, Professor Liu Tangyan from the School of Ocean Engineering, Tongji University, Professor Wei Wenxiang from the School of Medicine, Suzhou University, Professor Lu Guangming from Jinling Hospital, Nanjing University, Professor Zhou Jingmin from Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, and Professor Yao Yefeng from the College of Physics and Electronic Science, East China Normal University. In addition to the review experts, we also invited Deputy General Manager Tao Qian from Anhui Fite Technology Co., Ltd. and Director Liu Gang from the Talent and Education Department of Suzhou High-tech Zone.
Additionally, the senior management of Newmai Analysis attached great importance to this report and defense session, which reflects Newmai’s consistent view of valuing talent cultivation and creating various channels for talent recruitment. The internal experts at Newmai included Chairman Yang Peiqiang (Industry Professor at Suzhou University), Professor Yan Jun (Executive Dean of the Newmai Innovation Research Institute and Director of the National Postdoctoral Workstation), Deputy General Manager Zhang Yingli, and Deputy Director Cai Qing from the R&D Center.

Interaction between on-site and remote experts at the defense session
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Zhao Kun, the first postdoctoral researcher recruited in the field of biomedicine by Newmai Analysis, presented his proposal. This marks another significant expansion of Newmai’s NMR+ reach in the field of postdoctoral talent recruitment. We look forward to Dr. Zhao’s future success at the postdoctoral workstation, contributing to the wider application of low-field NMR in biomedicine.

Dr. Zhao Kun’s defense and evaluation in the biomedicine field
In this postdoctoral defense session, two new postdoctoral researchers successfully presented their proposals, and one postdoctoral researcher successfully completed his defense. Time flies, and as Newmai Analysis’ postdoctoral workstation embraces the new, we will always remember the years of hard work shared with our postdoctoral researchers. “Industry-University-Research” collaborative building and win-win achievements, Newmai Analysis is always on the road! Since its establishment, the Newmai Analysis Postdoctoral Workstation has seen 7 postdoctoral researchers complete their work, with another 4 currently conducting research. We hope more research-driven PhDs in NMR will join our team, grow with Newmai Analysis Instruments, and contribute to the development of nuclear magnetic resonance!

Suzhou Newmai Analysis Instruments Co., Ltd. has been committed to the development, production, and technical application of “low-field nuclear magnetic resonance” instruments since its establishment in 2003. Its products are widely used in industries such as agriculture, food, energy exploration, polymer materials, and life sciences. The company has developed rapidly and is now a leading high-tech enterprise in the emerging low-field NMR industry. Newmai Analysis’ innovation practice base, the Postdoctoral Workstation, has also developed rapidly. Established in November 2014, it was approved by the Jiangsu Provincial Human Resources Department and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. In April 2017, it was upgraded to a National Postdoctoral Scientific Research Station by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and was officially awarded in July of the same year.
The Newmai Analysis Postdoctoral Workstation currently collaborates with Tongji University, Suzhou University, Shanghai University, East China Normal University, Hohai University, and Nanjing Forestry University to cultivate postdoctoral researchers, and has established joint laboratories with Fudan University, Fuzhou University, Nanjing University, Nanjing Agricultural University, PetroChina Exploration Institute, and the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
