On November 30, 2018, in the chilly depths of winter in Changchun, China, over 50 faculty members and students from Changchun Institute of Technology, Jilin University, and Jilin Jianzhu University gathered in Classroom 101, Building 6, for the “NMR in Porous Media” Academic Exchange and Niumag’s Nationwide Service Tour.

Hosted by Suzhou Niumag Analytical Instrument Co., Ltd. and co-organized by the Water Engineering Safety & Disaster Prevention Laboratory at Changchun Institute of Technology, the event received strong support from faculty members at Jilin University, Jilin Jianzhu University, and Changchun Institute of Technology.
Professor Wang Qing from Jilin University’s School of Civil Engineering attended the event despite a busy schedule, alongside Associate Professor Gao Jinhua and Dean Zhao from the School of Civil Engineering at Changchun Institute of Technology. Professors Shangguan and Wang Gang from Jilin Jianzhu University also brought their students to attend the session.

Faculty and students engaged in the seminar
The session opened with welcoming remarks from Associate Professor Gao Jinhua, followed by an introduction from a Niumag product specialist who outlined the mission, goals, and agenda of the Service Tour initiative — designed to bring knowledge directly to the user community.

Dr. Wu Fei giving an in-depth technical presentation
Dr. Wu Fei, Niumag’s R&D Manager, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the latest NMR applications and techniques in the fields of cement and concrete. He provided an in-depth overview of how NMR is being used to study unfrozen water using advanced multi-physics coupling systems that integrate temperature and pressure — enabling real-time, in-situ detection.
He also highlighted that just last month, Niumag and the Cold & Arid Regions Environmental and Engineering Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences officially launched a joint lab in Lanzhou for dynamic analysis of the freezing–thawing process using NMR.
During the Q&A session, faculty and students actively engaged Dr. Wu with questions on instrument usage and future research directions. Following the seminar, a hands-on training session was held to address operational challenges and help participants gain practical experience using the NMR system.

Following the event, the Niumag team was invited to visit Jilin Jianzhu University for a follow-up session. They assisted faculty with instrument parameter setup, data interpretation, and troubleshooting — reinforcing Niumag’s customer-first commitment through real-time technical support.

With this, the Changchun stop of the “NMR in Porous Media” Academic Exchange and Niumag Service Tour came to a successful close — a promising kickoff for the second season of our nationwide initiative. At Niumag, we live by our mission: customer first, service above all. We will continue to provide tailored solutions, accelerate research, and deliver service with action — from 2018 through 2019 and beyond.
